Editor’s Note (Updated July 2026): Dead Sled Coffee appears to have ceased normal operations following widespread reports of unfulfilled orders during 2024. While the company may no longer be actively selling coffee, its officially licensed horror-themed blends remain a fascinating part of modern horror merchandise history. This article has been preserved as an archive of those releases and my personal experience collecting them.

Dead Sled Coffee first caught my attention because of its officially licensed Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice Coffee. After visiting the company’s website, I discovered it had also partnered with the estates of Bela Lugosi and Vampira, creating specialty coffees inspired by three of horror’s greatest icons.

As a lifelong horror fan, those names immediately grabbed me. Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Peter Lorre and Vincent Price have always been the foundation of my monster collection. Naturally, I placed an order.

While the coffee itself was enjoyable, what really impressed me was the packaging. Dead Sled understood its audience. Every bag looked like a collectible, making it just as appealing to horror fans as it was to coffee drinkers.

Why Dead Sled Coffee Stood Out

There are plenty of horror-themed coffees on the market, but most rely on generic monsters or spooky artwork. Dead Sled Coffee took a different approach by securing official licenses from horror icons and their estates. That immediately separated it from almost everything else available.

Their lineup eventually included:

  • Bela Lugosi
  • Vampira
  • Vincent Price
  • Robert Englund
  • Ghost Face
  • The Walking Dead
  • KISS
  • Elvira
  • and several other pop culture properties.

The artwork was consistently excellent and looked more like limited-edition collectibles than everyday grocery store coffee.

My Dead Sled Coffee Order

My first order included Bela’s Brew, Viva Vampira, and Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice Coffee.

Of the three, Bela’s Brew was easily my favorite. It was a rich New Orleans-style chicory blend that paired perfectly with a little cream and sugar.

Vampira was a close second with its bold Mexican Oaxaca roast.

Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice Coffee wasn’t bad by any means, but I’m generally more of a traditional coffee drinker than someone looking for flavored blends.

Even if I’d never brewed a single cup, I’d still have been happy owning the bags.

Looking back, I’m glad I ordered when I did. Between the coffee, the packaging and the collectibles included with my shipment, it ended up becoming a much more interesting purchase than I ever expected.

Robert Englund Coffee

Robert Englund may always be remembered as Freddy Krueger, but Dead Sled Coffee looked beyond simply putting his face on a bag. Nightmare Blend was designed as a high-caffeine coffee inspired by staying awake, the only way to survive a visit from the Springwood Slasher.

The blend combined Vietnamese Robusta with South American Arabica beans to create a bold, stronger-than-average cup. Dead Sled also released a limited preorder bundle featuring exclusive packaging, a vintage-style T-shirt, a coffee mug, and collectible extras. It quickly became one of Dead Sled Coffee’s most talked-about licensed releases.

For horror fans, this wasn’t just another licensed product. It was a clever tribute to one of the most recognizable characters in horror history.

Bela Lugosi Coffee

Few actors are more closely associated with classic horror than Bela Lugosi. His unforgettable performance as Count Dracula in Universal’s Dracula (1931) permanently cemented his place among the genre’s greatest icons.

Dead Sled Coffee partnered with the Bela Lugosi estate to create Bela’s Brew, an officially licensed New Orleans-style chicory coffee. Rich, dark and exceptionally smooth, it was a fitting tribute to the actor whose portrayal of Dracula still defines cinematic vampires nearly a century later.

Of every coffee I ordered from Dead Sled, Bela’s Brew was my favorite. The bold flavor held up well with cream and sugar, making it one of those coffees I looked forward to brewing rather than simply displaying on a shelf.

Vampira Coffee

Long before Elvira became the Queen of Halloween, there was Vampira.

Created by Maila Nurmi in the 1950s, Vampira became television’s original horror hostess, influencing nearly every horror hostess who followed, including Elvira.

Dead Sled honored her legacy with Viva Vampira, a single-origin Mexican Oaxaca coffee roasted to a bold Full City profile. It struck a nice balance between medium and dark roast while delivering plenty of rich flavor.

The striking artwork on the bag perfectly captured Vampira’s unforgettable silhouette, making it one of the best-looking packages Dead Sled ever produced.

Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice Coffee

Few people embodied horror with as much charm and sophistication as Vincent Price. While movie fans know him for classics like House of Wax, The Fly, and The Abominable Dr. Phibes, he was also an accomplished cook, art collector, and cookbook author.

Dead Sled celebrated both sides of Price by creating an officially licensed Vincent Price Pumpkin Spice Coffee. The blend used 100% Colombian Arabica beans infused with pumpkin and seasonal spices, combining his love of food with his legendary horror career.

Pumpkin spice isn’t usually my first choice when it comes to coffee, but it was impossible to pass up a bag featuring Vincent Price. As a longtime Vincent Price fan, there was no chance I was leaving this one behind. Even before brewing the first cup, it felt more like adding another collectible to my horror collection than simply buying coffee.

Dead Sled Merchandise

Dead Sled Coffee didn’t stop with coffee bags. They also produced merchandise that appealed directly to horror fans and collectors alike.

My order included promotional buttons, stickers, and one of their fantastic heat-activated Bela Lugosi mugs.

The mug appears almost black when empty. Pour in a hot cup of coffee and the artwork slowly materializes, revealing Bela Lugosi as Dracula alongside one of his most memorable quotes:

“I Never Drink… Wine.”

Dead Sled packaged everything exceptionally well, and even the promotional extras felt thoughtfully designed rather than like throwaway marketing items. It’s the kind of attention to detail that made the brand stand out.

Unfortunately, many of these items sold out quickly and have become difficult to find on the secondary market, making them desirable collectibles for horror fans today.

What Happened to Dead Sled Coffee?

Despite building a loyal following among horror fans, Dead Sled Coffee ran into serious problems during 2024.

Customers began reporting months-long shipping delays, missing orders and little communication from the company. Eventually, the online store stopped operating as expected, and many customers were left wondering whether the business had quietly closed.

Although Dead Sled’s social media accounts have remained online, there has never been a public announcement explaining exactly what happened to the company.

Today, Dead Sled Coffee is remembered less as an active coffee brand and more as one of the most unique horror-themed merchandise companies of the early 2020s.

The Company’s Mission Statement

Dead Sled Coffee strives to create a culture of acceptance and respect no matter what your level of coffee knowledge is.

We are Distinguished Coffee for the Exceptional & Unconventional

We offer amazing products that don’t require your dictionary or atlas to appreciate. Feel comfortable ordering our coffee and know that it’s not a crime if you don’t care where the beans came from. Or where it was processed. We’ve done all the work for you having slurped and sniffed through endless cuppings so you can just sit back and enjoy your coffee experience.

Final Rites

Dead Sled Coffee proved that horror merchandise doesn’t have to stop at T-shirts, posters or action figures. By combining quality coffee with officially licensed horror artwork, the company created something collectors genuinely wanted to own.

While its future remains uncertain, the bags, mugs and merchandise it produced continue to live on in horror collections. In many ways, they have become snapshots of a company that briefly found the perfect blend of horror and coffee.

For horror fans who were there, Dead Sled Coffee was more than just another brand. It was a fun idea executed remarkably well while it lasted.
